Colleges and universities are offering short-term online and on-campus programs that offer a taste of what life would be like at their institution. Some offer a mixture of academic and social content, courses taught by tenured professors, and even an opportunity to earn credit. These programs provide a fantastic way to discover college life and an enriching summer experience. 

The following is a selection of 2022 summer enrichment programs offered at colleges and universities around the world from our member institutions. Note - none of these programs have been endorsed by International ACAC. This is provided only as a resource guide for our members. Check the individual program websites for details, particularly concerning accommodations and guardianship.

Sunrise International Education: China (Virtual)
June 24 –  September 5, 2022
Horizon Academic (HARP) is a trimester-long online research program for extraordinary high school students interested in doing undergraduate-level research in an academic subject. Students will develop a college-level research project under the individualized guidance of a professor or doctoral researcher from a globally renowned university. After a trimester of reading, writing, and exploring, Horizon scholars finish their final projects, most often a 5,000 word research paper. By showcasing a student's very best work, Horizon gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their exceptional talent to universities. Horizon currently works with 83 faculty members, offering research opportunities on more than 350 topics across 16 academic subjects. The program caters primarily to rising grade 11 and 12 students, although particularly strong rising grade 10 students may apply. Admission is competitive, and we encourage applications from students with at least a 3.67 unweighted high school GPA. About 65% of students in the program hail from the US, and our international student population has included students from 32 countries.

IE University: Segovia and Madrid, Spain (On-Campus)

The IE University Summer Program is a two-week academically dynamic course comprised of workshops and team-building projects. The first phase of this innovative program gives you the opportunity to boost your soft skills through engaging sessions on leadership, personal branding, public speaking and teamwork. During the second phase, you are able to explore different fields of study and discover your ideal career path through workshops led by our very own faculty. The face-to-face edition is held at the IEU Campus in Segovia and Madrid. It is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular and team-building activities. Global Summer School is an intensive two-week STEM programme for 16- and 17-year olds in the heart of central London. Taught by Imperial academics, students will increase their specialist subject knowledge in either Engineering, Physics or Medicine and Life Sciences, alongside entrepreneurialism and problem solving skills in the team STEM Challenge.A range of university application masterclasses will run throughout the programme, and a packed social schedule will give a real taste for student life in London. Applications open in January 2022.

Our international summer school is open for all secondary/high school students aged 16-19 who are planning to enter higher education and are ready to get a taste of what it means to study at a top university in the UK. This unique program includes a choice of study modules informed by the University's research, talks by leading academics, an introduction to the York Strengths Employability Skills program, academic skills sessions to help you get ready for university as well as field trips, excursions and fun-packed activities!

Michigan Technological University: Houghton, Michigan (On Campus)
Summer Youth Programs
June 19 – August 6, 2022

Since 1972, Michigan Technology University's Summer Youth Programs has offered students in grades 6-11 hands-on explorations in engineering, science, technology, computer science, business, design, and the humanities. On average, we welcome over 1,200 participants to campus from more than 35 states and 14 countries. Programs generally last one week; participants may attend many consecutive programs. University of Chicago: Chicago, Illinois (On Campus and Virtual)
The University of Chicago is offering three summer enrichment programs for international students, including a one-week China Emerging Leaders (CEL) program and four-week Latin American Phoenix Scholars (LAPS) and UWC Global Academy (UWCGA) programs. CEL is an in-person leadership program for rising 11th-grade students attending a high school in China. LAPS and UWCGA provide students the opportunity to take any three-week, online UChicago Immersion Summer Session course and afterward visit UChicago's campus in-person for a week of admissions-focused and cohort-building programs. LAPS is open to rising seniors attending a high school in Latin America; UWCGA is open to rising seniors at a UWC. Students without financial need are responsible for their airfare to/from campus; however, need-based aid for transportation is available, and the application is need-blind for all programs.

The Catholic University of America: Washington D.C.
June - July, 2022
The Experiences in Architecture program at the Catholic University of America is an intense two-week, pre-college workshop for students interested in architecture or other design-related fields. Students are exposed to both the academic and professional sides of the architectural arena, as the city of Washington, D.C., becomes their classroom. The Experiences in Architecture program will better prepare students for the rigors of architecture school, giving students a head start, as well as acquainting them to campus life at the university level. Students who have participated in EiA’s summer workshop, or a similar pre-college program, are better prepared for success at the university level. Barnard College: New York City, NY
Multiple Dates from June 30 - August 13, 2022
Barnard Pre-College Programs is excited to welcome program participants back on campus! We will be offering some fantastic new and enhanced offerings to engage and challenge students in new ways. In our signature three-week Young Women’s Leadership Institute, students will have unique opportunities to delve into an area of interest on a deeper level through both in-class discussions and city exploration in everything from STEM to dance. Our seven week (for-credit) Pre-Baccalaureate Program offers students the opportunity to take undergraduate courses on campus and earn three college credits. Later in the summer, our Athena Summer Innovation Institute challenges students to work in teams to create a new venture — start-up businesses, non-profit organizations, or advocacy campaigns — that have the power to disrupt traditional ways of doing things and create lasting change.We are also proud to introduce Kode with Klossy Powered by Barnard, where participants will experience an expanded version of Kode with Klossy's distinguished coding curriculum paired with Barnard's Pre-College Program workshops and activities.

The high school division offers intermediate and advanced music students entering grades 10-12 the opportunity to work with renowned faculty in a challenging yet supportive environment. Students will participate in large ensembles, chamber ensembles, masterclasses, and an array of music and non-music courses designed to prepare students to enter college. Additional opportunities for an enhanced performance focus are available through the auditioned Performance Track.Cost: $2300

Ithaca College: Ithaca, NY
June 30 – July 9, 2022

Start your summer off right with a meaningful experience that lets you focus on your passion for piano. This year's institute will occur between Thursday, June 30 through Saturday, July 09, 2022. Work directly with nationally and internationally known Ithaca College piano faculty members to hone your craft with daily private and small group lessons, workshops, theory and masterclasses, and supervised practice. Enjoy working alongside other young artists during daily piano ensemble and by participating in a final showcase recital. You will have the full use of our James J. Whalen Center for Music during your time on campus. When you're not in Whalen, enjoy recreational and social activities, such as a night at the theater, sunny excursions to our local state parks, and movie nights.Cost: $35 application fee, $2250.00 program cost

Ithaca College: Ithaca, NY
Take your first steps toward college by spending a few weeks this summer on the Ithaca College campus in beautiful Ithaca, NY. Known as the "best time of the year" to be in Ithaca, plan to arrive on campus to begin your summer college adventure on Tuesday, July 5 with coursework occurring Wednesday, July 6 thru Friday, July 22, 2022. You will learn hands-on about getting to college, succeeding in the classroom, and making the most of life outside of classes under the guidance of supportive faculty and Resident Advisors (or "RA's"). Our RA's are peer leaders who encourage community-building, peer-to-peer connection, and who provide regularly-scheduled social activities when you are not in class. We are strongly committed to racial equity and inclusiveness. Both white-identifying students and students of color are engaged throughout the program in conversations that explore race, antiracism, and what it means to be in an inclusive classroom. Aligned with Ithaca College's mission to Educate, Engage and Empower through Theory, Practice, and Performance, students not only talk about racial equity, they get the chance to live it, too.

Unlike most other young writers conferences or precollege summer writing programs, which focus primarily on creative writing, the Ithaca Young Writers Institute hosts a wide range of both creative and professional writing courses, from poetry to publishing, building on Ithaca College's reputation for blending praxis with the arts. Taught by the distinguished faculty of the College's Department of Writing, with assistance from the department's most talented undergraduates, the curriculum mirrors the department's own unique curriculum, giving aspiring young writers an immersive conference experience in an authentic college atmosphere.

Pioneer Academy: United States (Virtual)
June - August, 2022
The Pioneer Research Program is a global virtual research institute selecting interest-driven, high-achieving high school students to conduct research that meets the highest standards of undergraduate level work. These studies culminate in a full-length research paper certified by Pioneer. Since 2012, 4,192 students from 71 countries and regions have completed the program. The program is the only fully college accredited online research program for high school students.
