University of Utah - Asia Campus
Incheon, South Korea

This Regional Institute is aimed at connecting secondary school counselors within East Asia with university admission advising tools and networks of universities around the world. It is also intended for universities in North America, Europe, and around the world who want to build connections and deepen their understanding of the Asian student market. Finally, we hope that if you are a counselor from outside of the Asia region that you can gain valuable professional development in issues pertaining to counseling within Asia and helping students to apply to Korean and other Asian universities.

Through in-depth and focused conversations and presentations, participants will gain a greater understanding of the educational process, admission requirements, fees and scholarships, and the challenges and opportunities students face when applying to a university outside of Asia.

Why Attend the International ACAC East Asia Regional Institute?

The Regional Institute will allow for two days of concentrated networking, educational sessions, and conversations that are specific to students in or from East Asia or East Asian universities.

This Regional Institute will provide challenging, thought-provoking, and professionally meaningful sessions concurrently implemented in three professionally focused streams:  the beginning counselor, experienced counselor, and university admission representative. A fourth stream is woven into the schedule and will bring all attendees together in mixed sessions. Together, these streams will deliver a curriculum created to promote professional competencies relevant to counseling and admissions work throughout East and Southeast Asia. And although the location of the institute is in Korea, the curriculum encompasses the whole of the region.

Additionally, there will be a sub-regional breakout session, a reverse fair, a program focused on Korean university applications, and a travel-planning center for admission staff, manned by counselors and experienced admissions travelers, to help with logistical advice on work-based travel in countries throughout the region.

Representatives from universities and high schools, including admissions officers, principals, counselors, and teachers are encouraged to attend. All levels of experience are welcome. International ACAC membership is required. All attendees will receive single rooms with en suite bathroom facilities.
